Clear call rates for everyone – UK Calling

Every day, people use service numbers to make phone calls to companies and organisations, contact directory enquiries or even to vote in TV shows.

But the cost of calling these numbers – which start 08, 09 or 118 – is often difficult to find out.

That is changing from July, under a new system which will make the cost of calling service numbers clear for everyone. It’s called UK Calling, and it’s the biggest change to telephone calls in over a decade.

From the 1st July, any organisation that displays an 0843, 0844, 0845 or 0870 number, will need to display the per minute price (known as the ‘service charge’), wherever the number is displayed.

“Calls cost Xp per minute plus your phone company’s access charge.”

Wherever you display your 08 number, you will need to include the above line, replacing the X with the per minute service charge.
